Beth Kephart is the award-winning author of numerous books of literary nonfiction, fiction, and prose poetry, including the National Book Award nominee A SLANT OF SUN; the March 2005 Book Sense pick, GHOSTS IN THE GARDEN; FLOW:  THE LIFE AND TIMES OF PHILADELPHIA’S SCHUYLKILL RIVER, UNDERCOVER, and  ZENOBIA: THE CURIOUS BOOK OF BUSINESS.  Two more young adults novels are slated to appear from HarperCollins.
 
Kephart’s essays, reviews, and profiles have appeared in publications across the nation,  including New York Times, Washington Post Book World, Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun, Philadelphia magazine, Philadelphia Inquirer, Salon.com, Weekend, Real Simple, and Parenting, and she is frequently anthologized, most recently in BECAUSE I SAID SO, BIG SHOES, and BEST AMERICAN SPORTS WRITING.  
 
Beth was the winner of the 1997 Pennsylvania Council on the Arts top fiction grant, a 1998 Leeway Grant, and a 2000 National Endowment for the Arts grant, and she was recently named a 2005 Pew Fellowship in the Arts winner as well as the winner of the 2005 Speakeasy Poetry Prize.  
 
Kephart has taught writing to children for many years and has been a guest lecturer and teacher at numerous institutions. She is the strategic writing partner in the award-winning marketing communications firm, Fusion.
